Couple Polls Internet Users: Should We Kill Our Baby?

Filed under Life & Family, News on November 18th, 2010 by M. French

A couple is conducting a poll that asks internet users whether they should kill their 17 week old pre-born baby. Evidently, the results of the poll well help them decide. The couple states the following on their website:

You can vote and choose whether we abort or keep our unborn child. For the first time, your vote on the topic of abortion can make a difference.

We invite you take this journey with us as we contemplate our own options and encourage you to utilize this site to vote and voice your opinion in a way that will have a real consequence… in a way that truly matters. Here, your vote will not go unheard.

  1. No don’t kill the baby if you don’t want it many couples would love to have a child. give it to someone.

  2. Marcus,

You are aware, I’m sure, that the couple does not consider it “killing,” and has never said “Should we kill our baby?”

It’s sloppy journalism for your referring blog to use that language, and it’s sloppy journalism for you to use this as a headline, though I’m sure your click-through rate is higher.

I’m in agreement with you that 20 weeks is a ridiculously excessive time to be allowed to have an abortion.  It’s just not good for anyone’s credibility to present issues this way.

  3. Please don’t. I know its easy when so many doctors are presenting it as an easy option. But stop and redirect your mind from the ‘positives’ of an abortion and focus on the negatives. No matter what reason you can come up with for the aborting, giving that child a chance at life is worth more than you can imagine. Financial situation? A child’s life is worth more than all the money in the world. Think of the person inside of you as a miracle, not just a group of cells. When you stare into that precious child’s eyes for the first time, you will have no regrets.

  4. Jeremiah  ch1 verse 5
    5.  Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

If God already knows the baby that you have conceived, how would you explain an abortion as the result of an internet poll to Him?

  5. I would urge this couple to have an ultrasound so that they can see that this is a child whose life they are considering terminating.  At 17 weeks an ultrasound will show the child’s facial features, and I think that they should at least look at their child’s face before they make a decision about killing him or her. An abortion ends a pregnancy by killing a child.

  6. Dan S.,

Is that Jeremiah verse the strongest piece of evidence in the Bible that an embryo is a full human life?

You are aware, I assume, that the Old Testament is loaded with non-literal language.  After all, in Psalm 35, David is not likely literally asking God to put on a suit of armor and fight with him.  In Jeremiah 25, the wind is not likely literally going to drive shepherds away from the land.

So God saying he knew you before you were born could mean quite a number of things.  Most likely he’s talking about a plan for the man’s life, but who knows.  It’s not a clear cut talk about a fetus or embryo, that’s for sure.

When you really look at what is provided as evidence for the “Abortion is murder,” argument, it’s clear that this is just an issue hijacked by politicians, which has no real Biblical support.
